ABOUT US
Frazier Baptist Church has been serving the Gower-Agency community for over 130 years. It currently serves about 150 families. We are located at 13601 SE State Route E.On the third Sunday in January 1873, five individuals feeling led by God met to organize Frazier Baptist Church. From that humble beginning, the church has grown. Just as the lights of the church steeple pierce the darkness of night, God has used the people of the church to be a light to the surrounding communities, pointing them to Jesus.
The church originally met in the No. 5 Schoolhouse. Then it shared a building with the Methodists for 15 years, 1875-1890, before building on the present site in 1890. A portion of our present building is part of that original building. The new church cost $1490.75. The main road used to run on the east side of the church, but in 1930 is was changed to the west side. This left the church facing the wrong direction, so in 1950 it was decided to dig a basement and turn the church around. In 1971, the north wing was built on and the church building was remodeled.
A major remodeling of the building occurred in 1950 when the building was turned around, and again in 1971 when the north wing was added.
Over the years hundreds of people have called Frazier their church home and have come to know God because of the church's ministries. Over the course of its history, the church has had 36 pastors, with Rev. Jack Perry being pastor the longest, from 1954-1974.
"Always in God's Hands," played the theme for the development of Frazier's new multi-purpose building. After much praying and planning, the Frazier Family gathered on September 5, 1999 for the groundbreaking ceremony. The building was dedication February 27, 2000.
On December 22, 2002, the church celebrated God's goodness and faithfulness by burning the mortgage on the family Life Center. The total cost to construct and equip the Family Life Center was over $361,000. To retire the debt on the building, the families of the church gave an offering of over $47,000 on a single day. A few families did not pay for the building, but it was everyone who had a part as they prayed and then gave generously and sacrificially in obedience to God. The Family Life Center has allowed us to begin new ministries that have resulted in people coming to know Jesus. Through this all God has received the praise and glory.
